At the library, you can find a few resources to potentially help you with filing your taxes this season. Please note that KHCPL employees are not able to assist with filing taxes or filling out tax forms.
AARP Tax Assistance
Local AARP TaxAide volunteers, certified by the IRS, will be providing free income tax preparation assistance to low- and middle-income taxpayers with special attention to those age 50 and older. These volunteers will answer basic tax questions and assist in preparing and filing basic federal and state returns.
This free service will take place at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, 220 N. Union St., beginning February 5, 2025, and continuing until April 15, 2025. Volunteers will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on an appointment-only basis. Beginning January 21, taxpayers may call 765-626-0841 to schedule an appointment.
Taxpayers will be required to show photo identification and their social security number and should bring the following:
- Copy of their 2024 returns.
- All tax documents showing their earnings in 2024.
- The amount of residential property tax paid in 2024, or if renting, the amount of rent paid in 2024 and the name and address of their landlord.
United Way Tax Packets
United Way’s tax preparation service is offered to individuals whose household income is $60,000 or less a year.
United Way tax packets are available at all KHCPL locations and contain all the necessary forms and instructions. Packets can be picked up and returned at the following locations:
- KHCPL Main, South or Russiaville
- Greentown Public Library, 421 S. Harrison St.
- Ivy Tech, 1815 E. Morgan St.
- Tipton Public Library, 127 E. Madison St.
Once United Way receives your packet with all the necessary information, they will complete your taxes and schedule a review appointment in order to go over your return and e-file your taxes. You should hear from United Way within 21 business days after your drop off your completed packet. Please note that there will be a delay in completing your taxes if your packet is not filled out completely.

IRS federal tax forms
Federal tax forms can be picked up at any KHCPL location. Staff can assist with printing state tax forms, or you can find these forms at the Indiana Department of Revenue office at 124 W. Superior St.
