If you have trouble connecting to our Public Wi-Fi
The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is pleased to offer free wireless Internet access for library patrons.
Hot spots are available throughout all library locations including Main Library, Russiaville Branch and South Branch.
Patrons
must have a wireless capable computer or device. The wireless service
uses standards 802.11b and 802.11g and is free to patrons who bring
their own appropriately equipped devices. No technical support is
available from the library staff so users will need to know how to
operate their own equipment.
When you use the Internet through the library wireless connections you are accepting and agree to abide by the library's Acceptable Use Policy. Please take the time to read the policy.
Make sure that you are connected to the Library's Wi-Fi signal and not another access point.
Sometimes a computer will automatically connect to a
different network than what is expected. Please make sue that you are
connect to the Library-Wi-Fi access point.
Make sure that you are within range of the library's Wi-Fi signal.
A library staff member will be able to help you determine a good location.
Make sure that your network card is set to use DHCP (this is usually the default setting).
To check to see your wireless network service is setup to use DHCP, click Start, Control Panel, "Network and Internet Connections"; if you're in category view, select Network Connections.
Select Services. Right click the icon for your wireless device and then click Properties. On the General Information tab, right click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
On this screen, make sure that the "Obtain an IP addres automatically" radio button is seleected . The "Obtain DNS server automatically" should also be selected. Click OK on all of the open windows to close them and restart the computer if prompted.
If you have previously saved the Wi-Fi connection, please delete it and re-connect to our access point.
Restart the connection.
To stop and start the
wireless network service, click Start, Control Panel, "Performance and
Maintenance"; if you're in category view, select Administrative Tools.
Select Services. On the right side of the two-pane dialog box, scroll
down to Wireless Zero Configuration and click to select it. Click
"Stop the service" and, after that's accomplished, click "Start the
service."
Restart your computer.
If you follow these steps and are still having trouble, please consult the manufacturer of your wireless device.
