At 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Indiana University Kokomo Kresge Auditorium, Out of the Easy author Ruta Sepetys will talk about her novel and answer your questions.

Her book was selected as the Howard County Reads Book for 2013. It’s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, 17-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants much more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer. She devises a plan to get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter leaves Josie tangled in an investigation that will challenge her allegiance to her mother, her conscience, and Willie Woodley, the brusque madam on Conti Street.

Sepetys will sign books after the event. Bring yours with you or purchase one at the Author Visit. She will also answer questions you have about Between Shades of Gray, another book she wrote, set during World War II. Lina Vilkas, 15, is arrested by the Soviet secret police and deported to Siberia with her mother and younger brother. Every day is a fight for survival. She vows to honor her family and the thousands like hers by burying her complete story in a jar on Lithuanian soil. Between Shades of Gray was one of the top 15 HCR books.

Author Visit tickets are free, but you must have one to attend. Pick up your tickets at any KHCPL location, the Greentown Public Library, or the IU Kokomo Library.
