NEWSPAPERS IN GENEALOGY RESEARCH

Tuesday, January 19th: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at KHCPL South
Learn the value of the information found in newspapers from your ancestral community, the very newspapers that your ancestors may have read. The types of information that can be found and how to access various newspapers will be discussed. For required registration call the Genealogy & Local History Department at 765.450.5885.

 

GENEALOGY BASICS WORKSHOP

Saturday, February 20th - 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at KHCPL South
This workshop, which will cover only the basics, is for the first time genealogy researcher and will be held in the Tulip Tree Room at KHCPL South. The class is free and is limited to 10 participants; registration is required and begins one month before the event.

USING FOOTNOTE.COM

Tuesday, March 16th - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at KHCPL South
Footnote.com, which is available at all KHCPL locations, is a popular subscription database for genealogy research. Learn about the vast number of resources provided by Footnote.com and how to access them.

GENEALOGY & LOCAL HISTORY DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE &
HOWARD COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY INFORMATION EVENT

Saturday, April 17th - Noon. to 3:00 p.m. at KHCPL Genealogy (4053 S. Webster St., Kokomo)
Tour the Genealogy & Local History Department at the temporary location at 4053 South Webster Street. View demonstrations of available databases, ask questions of knowledgeable genealogists, and learn how and where to start your genealogy research. Howard County Genealogical Society members will be on hand to answer questions about the society. Receive a free Genealogy Beginner’s Packet. Door prizes will be given away and registration is not
required.

 

GENEALOGY RESEARCH TRIP TO FORT WAYNE

Saturday, May 8th: 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Genealogy & Local History Department will sponsor an all-day research trip to the Genealogy Center at the Allen County Public Library. Participants will carpool and the group will stop at a restaurant in Fort Wayne before returning to Kokomo. For required registration and full details, call 765.450.5885 beginning April 8. A transportation fee will be assessed for the trip.


DAR WORKSHOP

Thursday, May 20th: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at KHCPL Genealogy (4053 S. Webster St., Kokomo)
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will provide information on the application process for joining the DAR. This volunteer service organization is nonpolitical and is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
