Winter / Spring 2012 Genealogy Classes & Upcoming Events

GENEALOGY BASICS CLASS • KHCPL MAIN

Saturday, Feb. 18 • 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This class, which will cover only the basics, is for the first-time genealogy researcher. The class will be in Meeting Rooms A&B at KHCPL Main. The class is free and limited to 10 participants. For required registration, call the Genealogy and Local History Department at 765.626.0839 beginning Jan. 18.

 

CLIMBING YOUR FAMILY TREE • KHCPL MAIN

Wednesdays, March 7 – April 11 • 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A beginning genealogy class, "Climbing Your Family Tree," will be in Meeting Rooms A&B at KHCPL Main each Wednesday for six weeks. The course fee, which includes a three-ring binder and handouts, is $25. Registration is required because class size is limited. Pay your fee and register in the Genealogy and Local History Department beginning Feb. 7.

 

GENEALOGY FOR NIGHT OWLS • KHCPL MAIN

Friday, April 20 • 5:30 p.m. to midnight
Attend KHCPL's 30th after-hours research evening designed for experienced genealogists. The fee is $14 for Howard
County Genealogical Society members and $16 for nonmembers; the fee includes a buffet dinner and door prizes. Pay your fee and register in the Genealogy & Local History Department beginning March 20. Space is limited.

 

RESEARCH TRIP TO FORT WAYNE

GLH DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE & HCGS INFORMATION EVENT • KHCPL MAIN

Saturday, May 19 • noon to 4:00 p.m.
Tour the Genealogy & Local History Department (GLHD). View demonstrations of available databases, ask questions of knowledgeable genealogists, and learn how and where to start your genealogy research. Howard County Genealogical Society (HCGS) members will be on hand to answer questions about the society. Receive a free Genealogy Beginner's Packet, and door prizes will be given away. No registration required.

 

DAR WORKSHOP • KHCPL MAIN

Thursday, May 24 • 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will provide information about the application process for joining the DAR. This volunteer service organization is nonpolitical and is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
