Long Term Lovers of Howard County
Leon and Mary K. (Shockley) Orr : 68+ Years
Married January 3rd, 1935
No pictures were taken when Leon and Mary were married in Sheridan, Indiana, on January 3, 1935. They just went to a minister's house on Leon's 21st birthday and tied the knot. Afterwards, Mary made chili soup for themselves and the couple who stood up with them. Their first child was also the first baby in Howard County in 1936, born at the now-defunct Beechwood Hospital. They had 3 children who have added a total of 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren to their family. Leon began teaching at New London H.S., where he was also basketball coach, and later moved to Kokomo H.S. Mary went back to college to get her teaching certificate after raising their children. She taught elementary school in Howard Township and later at Jefferson School. They now live in Northwoods Commons.
