Audra Ball was originally from Mitchell, Indiana. After graduating from high school in 1934, she came to Kokomo for the summer to live with her sister, Mary (Ball) Tickfer, who was having a baby. Mary was the eldest of the Ball children and was always taking in her siblings and other relatives to help them out. The Tickfers lived in the North End and Audra used to walk over to Hines Drugstore. Loren, who was working at Ferriter's Grocery in the West End at the time, lived on the same street and used to watch her walk down to the drugstore. Finally, he sent his sister over to the Tickfer house to ask Audra if she'd go to the movies with him. Audra said yes, a fateful decision. At the end of the summer, she returned to Mitchell, but a year later she returned to Kokomo, wanting to see more of Loren. They were married at Calvary Baptist Church in Kokomo on October 27, 1939, by Rev. James McFarland Smith. Loren's sister who had acted as the original go-between, Doris Kull, and her husband George stood up with them. Audra worked for a while as a sewer at Reliance Corporation, where her brother-in-law was a supervisor, and Loren later worked at Chrysler. They are the parents of Karen (Mrs. Chuck) Sosbe, and have 2 grandchildren.
The secret of our success: "Both of us had good examples of marriage from our parents, and we always practiced our Christian faith."
