The Alexanders' wedding took place at Center in Howard County on May 2, 1866, when Susan was 16 years old. They lived in or near Hemlock their entire married lives with the exception of two years spent in Illinois. William was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, and was one of 10 children born to John and Sarah Alexander. William and Susan had 15 children, five of whom died in 1877, four in a diphtheria epidemic. The surviving children at the time of the couple's 63rd anniversary were: W.B. and Jud Alexander of Sharpsville; Ed Alexander of Danville, Illinois; James, Doc and Thomas Alexander of Indianapolis; Mrs. Bess Kelmar of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Mayme Pickering and Mrs. Lula Rivers of Kokomo. The couple was members of Hemlock Friends Church. Susan died in 1930 and William in 1933. Both are buried in Albright Cemetery.
