Generations of Howard County

In this August 1910 photo, the woman standing at the back is Essie Sims Wright (1881-1965).  In front of her are her father, Samuel M. Sims (1850-1922) and her grandmother (Samuel's mother), Frances "Fannie" McKown Sims Smith (1832-1922).  Seated on Samuel's lap is Essie's 7-month-old baby, Harold E. Wright (1910-1966).  Samuel and his wife, Cynthia Arabelle "Belle" Linson Sims (not pictured) (1855-1952) were life-long residents of Russiaville, Howard County, and the surrounding area.  They bought a farm just south of Russiaville in Clinton County in 1882, and they moved to Russiaville, where Samuel owned a hardware store, by 1892.  Their Russiaville house on the west side of South Union Street, just south of the train depot, was Belle's permanent residence until her death in 1955 at the age of 97, when she was identified as Russiaville's "oldest resident."  Samuel and Belle Sims and Essie Sims Wright are all buried in Russiaville Cemetery.
