Board of Trustees

Regular board meetings are held the third Monday of every month, beginning at 4:30 p.m., at KHCPL Main, unless otherwise noted.

The library is governed by a seven member board of trustees. Board members are appointed for four-year terms and may be appointed for a maximum of four consecutive terms.

Appointing bodies include the County Commissioners, County Council, Kokomo-Center Township School Board, and the presidents of the Northwestern, Western and Taylor school boards.

Library board meeting information will be posted on the library administrative office window at least four days prior to each meeting date.

Board Members

Mary Baker

Mary Baker

In addition to working with her husband in their robotics supply company, AndyMark, Inc., Mary has volunteered with the Hospital Cheer Guild, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and with FIRST Robotics teams. If she could meet any author, she’d choose Haven Kimmel, author of the best-selling memoir A Girl Named Zippy. She brings the perspective of an active library user to her work on the library board.

Joe Dunbar

Joe Dunbar

A Kokomo native and long-term board member, Joe is familiar to many area residents due to his tenure as a teacher for Kokomo Schools. He was also part of the library board when KHCPL Main was beautifully renovated. Joe especially enjoys the library’s genealogy section and has traced his ancestry back to Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.

Alan Girton

Alan Girton

A Premier Agent with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and active community volunteer, Alan cites the library as being influential in his life by opening up new worlds to him as a youth and a place where he still discovers new things. He enjoys acting, and is our only current board member to have appeared on stage and screen.

Stephanie Carrell

Stephanie Carrell

Serving as a KHCPL trustee is a great fit for Stephanie Carrell, as she has been a fan of public libraries since she was a child. She spreads her love of reading whenever possible, previously as a first grade teacher and currently as a foster parent. As a lifelong learner, she has visited countries in Africa and Asia and she hopes she will have more chances to grow and give back through international travel.

Karen Sosbe

Karen Sosbe

A retired teacher, Karen is interested in seeing the library partner with local schools. She has visited a number of libraries across the US and has also used a number of them for research purposes, including the National Archives. She loves to dig into her family’s history, but has a number of other interests and experiences as well, including a stint working with the FBI.

Cathy Stover

Cathy Stover

Cathy is a passionate community volunteer, having served on boards as diverse as the Howard County Historical Society, Kiwanis, and Project Access. As a reader, she appreciates Ernest Hemingway. She enjoys her role as a library trustee because of the chance it gives her to help lead the library she loves into the future with new ideas and new services.

Stephanie Oden

Being a small business owner with an MBA sounds serious, but Stephanie Oden also loves taking in a football game or, better yet, taking a cruise. One of the ways she has given back to the community is by serving on the Bona Vista Board. She thinks there is something magical about going to the library and is proud to be a published author.
