No longer are you restricted to reading your favorite book. Stop by select KHCPL locations and check out an mp3 player with a book loaded on it. Listen while you are at work, doing laundry, exercising or reclined back in your favorite chair. Our selection of books to upload onto an mp3 player is growing everyday. The mp3 players KHCPL rents out are simple to use, but should you have some troubles or questions one of the talented KHCPL staff will give you a quick demo of the player.

mp3 player borrowing policy

GENERAL
  • MP3 Players have a 14-day check out period, and cannot be renewed.
  • Holds cannot be placed on these items.
  • Patrons 17 years of age or younger may not checkout MP3 players.
  • A maximum of one may be checked out on a patron's card at any one time.
  • MP3 players have a $1.00 overdue fine per day, to a maximum of $10.00 per item.
  • MP3 players require a $20.00 deposit of check or cash, credit cards cannot be used for deposits.
  • MP3 players MUST be returned to library staff at the Circulation desk at the Main Library to ensure that patron receives deposit money back. Failure to return player to staff at circulation desk may result in forfeiture of part or all of $20.00 deposit.
  • MP3 Players are to be used for the loading of audio books on MP3 discs.
  • MP3 files are loaded onto players at the Circulation desk in a process that should take approximately 15 minutes.
  • MP3 discs can be checked out separately from the player, and patrons can have MP3 discs loaded onto players without checking the discs out.
  • Patrons who want to download files from the Downloadable eBooks and Audio Books from the library's website must use their own computers.
  • Regular audio books on CD and cassette tape are not compatible and cannot be loaded onto players.
CHECKOUT REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
  • Patrons must be at least 18 years old.
  • Patrons must leave a $20 deposit that will be refunded when player is returned.
  • Players cannot be requested for delivery to other library locations and players cannot be put on hold.
  • Players are currently available at KHCPL Main and KHCPL South, and must be returned to the location where the player was checked out.
FINES
  • Players can be checked out for 2 weeks.
  • Players can not be renewed.
  • Players are fined an overdue rate of $1 per day up to a maximum of $10.
  • Players are billed after 8 days overdue. Replacement cost of player is $141.
MP3 DISCS
  • MP3 Discs have the same circulation rules and fines as adult CD-ROMs.
DEPOSIT
  • Deposits can be made with check or cash.
  • Patron's deposit of check and cash are kept in the Circulation Department.
  • Part or all of all of the $20 can be used for fines, replacement fees, and other costs associated with a MP3 player.
  • Players MUST be returned to library staff at the Circulation Desk at the location it was checked out to ensure that patron receives deposit money back. Failure to return player to staff at circulation desk may result in forfeiture of part or all of $20 deposit.
MP3 PLAYER ASSOCIATED PARTS
  • Players include battery & case.
  • Players must be returned with all parts to receive deposit refund.
  • Failure to return one or more associated pieces will result in loss of part or all of deposit.
  • Library does not circulate headphones with players. Headphone sets can be purchased at the Circulation Desk for $5.
